Texas Instruments has announced the January release of the TI-Navigator Classroom Learning System. The TI-Navigator is a way to link a whole classroom of TI graphing calculators together in a network connected to the teacher's laptop or desktop. The teacher can send quizzes, take polls, show problems, make assignments and much more to each student's graphing calculator using the existing screen as a communication device. Student responses are immediately graded, saved, and visible to the teacher.
Each TI-Navigator connects four student TI graphing calculators remotely to the teacher's computer. Keyboards that are slightly smaller than desktop keyboards attach to each student's TI graphing calculator to take notes, complete short answer probes, and ask questions of the teacher. The TI-Navigator is compatible with the TI-83 Plus, TI-89, TI-92 Plus, and the Voyage 200 educational handhelds.
Sample activities are available to teachers on the accompanying software as well as the website. Training and technical assistance are available from Navigator specialists.
TI's Education site also features homework help for students, resources for parents and classroom ideas, activities and professional development for teachers. It can be found at www.education.ti.com.
