Description: The Technology Planning Satellite Video Conference series is comprised of four modules, recorded as video on a two tape set: Introduction to Technology Planning: Overview of the Essential Elements This first session focuses on the essential elements of technology planning including: establishing a vision, involving all stakeholders in the process, planning for staff development, maintenance and support, identifying funding resources and planning for evaluation. Classroom Practices: Integrating Technology with Instruction From a one computer classroom to high levels of access, teachers will describe and demonstrate how they have incorporated technology into their regular instructional programs. How teachers use stand-alone software, hypermedia tools, scanners, digital cameras, camcorders and other tools will be discussed. Technology Staff Development: Effective Practices The critical element for effective use of technology by students and teachers is staff development. A carefully designed program will support teachers to move from learning about technology to using technology to support personal productivity to using technology to enhance student learning. This segment will examine successful staff training practices that districts and schools have developed to promote the use of technology as a tool for more powerful student learning. Ongoing Support and Maintenance: School Planning and Technical Issues Buying hardware and software and training staff are important first steps. Networking and ongoing support require planning and the allocation of financial resources. This final program in the series will examine the elements that must be in place to support the use of technology in schools and offices. Guidelines for network planning, network and technical support, maintenance, standards and acceptable use policies will be discussed. The Putting the Pieces Together satellite series includes round table discussions with panelists highlighting the "keys to success" for technology planning and the steps to develop, fund, and implement a plan. Actual field examples are used to illustrate these steps and to allow viewers to observe the outcomes. This project is partially funded by the California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP) and with support from the Distance Learning Resource Network (DLRN) a dissemination project for the U.S. Department of Education Star Schools Program.
