Technology Tips for Differentiated Instruction

This theme addresses the importance of leveraging the power of technology in all areas of K-12 education, from reading to science to special education. As a result of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation, education leaders are expected to develop plans that effectively employ technology to enhance learning and increase student achievement.

	This resource supports an interactive collaborative process within a school or district that engages a team of educators in assessing the effectiveness of a local program or initiative. 	Education Commision of the States (ECS) No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Database
	Information in the database represents state laws, departmental regulations, board rules, directives and practices related to 40 requirements across seven major sections of the NCLB legislation. These baseline data, compiled by ECS researchers in conjunction with state policymakers and their staff, will be updated frequently as policies change.

EETT - National Profile Report

The State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) share their report on National Trends: Enhancing Education Through Technology, NCLB Title II, Part D — Year One in Review. In the fall of 2003, SETDA commissioned the Metiri Group to conduct a national survey on the first year of implementation of the NCLB Title II, Part D Program. Forty-six states and the District of Columbia completed this survey, representing 92 percent of the federal dollars allocated across the United States in Title II, Part D funds in 2002-2003. This report documents the implementation of the formula and competitive grant programs and highlights several state programs, documenting their alignment with the purposes of NCLB. Teacher Qualification Index (TQI) - California

The TQI developed for this website is a standardized rating system that reflects the credential status and experience level of teachers at each public K-12 school in California. Schools receive a rating from 1 to 10 based on the percentage of teachers at the school who are qualified. Schools with higher percentages of underqualified teachers have lower TQI ratings. TQI ratings are reduced in schools with high percentages of beginning teachers (i.e., first and second year).

Teacher-to-Teacher Summer Workshops

The U.S. Department of Education will host a series of seven regional Teacher-to-Teacher Summer Workshops. The Department will partner with some of the best teachers to share with their colleagues research-based practices that they have successfully applied in the classroom to close the achievement gap and help all children learn and progress. In order to foster ongoing learning and development after the workshops the Department will provide participants DVDs, publications, suggested Internet sites and other resources that they can take back to their schools and share with colleagues.

There is no registration fee for the summer workshops. The Department will cover your hotel costs for two nights and provide a travel stipend. For those attendees traveling more than 50 miles to the workshops, you will receive $150 travel stipend. For those traveling within the 50 mile radius the travel stipend is $50.

Technology Briefs for NCLB planners

The Northeast and Islands Regional Technology Consortium (NEIRTEC) has created a series of Technology Briefs for NCLB planners. The topics of these Technology Briefs were selected to reflect the U.S. Department of Education requirements for state and local applications, and they provide NCLB planners with effective strategies, key questions to consider, and selected resources that will inform the application and planning process.

Using NCLB to Improve Student Achievement

The Public Education Network has published an 80-page guide for community leaders, parents and educators on how to use the federal legislation, No Child Left Behind, to advocate for improved public education. It explains the law's new terms and provisions in layman's language, prioritizes the areas in which the public should concentrate action, and provides a training tool for parent/teacher meetings and town meetings.
