This is an ongoing project of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and various partners. Its purpose is to define and promote the use of technology for students, teachers, and school administrators to facilitate school improvement. Use the links provided here to learn more about each branch of the initiative.
NETS*S: Standards for Students: Students in today's world need
both academic and technology skills to do the kinds of jobs expected
of the workforce. The NETS*S project Web site describes the essential
conditions required for a technology-rich learning environment,
provides the standards, and includes support documentation such
as student profiles, curriculum resources, lesson plans, and more.
Instructional Units that Incorporate NETS*S Standards:
Technology skills are most powerful when used in the context of
academic instruction. Click on this link to access samples of instructional
units that include technology use for students. Each major strand
has links to an example for grades K-3, 4-6, and 7-12 in language
arts, mathematics, social science, or science.
NETS*T:
Standards for Teachers: Initially conceived for pre-service
teachers, the NETS*T project's standards are applicable to current
classroom teachers as well. The Web site includes the standards,
performance profiles, essential conditions for teachers using technology
in the classroom, lesson plans, and other supporting materials.
NETS*A: Standards
for Administrators: The most recent arm of the NETS project,
the standards provided here target school administrators. This link
takes you to the standards and profiles. By visiting the ISTE bookstore,
you can also find newly released print materials that can be purchased
and used to support administrators as they implement the standards.
