School Technology Planning Template (Process guidelines pdf_9.8k)
This template, which follows the same format as the District Technology planning template, is a tool to help schools develop a three-year plan to ensure that their infrastructure will support teachers to use technology to enhance student learning. The district plan will help to determine not only the school's vision but what resources - people, infrastructure, hardware and software - will be available to support the school plan.

Directions to complete the template:
Technology planning team: List all members of the planning team. To ensure the "buy in" of the total school community, it is recommended that the committee include the principal, teachers (both avid technology users and non-users), classified staff, parents, and community members, including potential business partners.

School Vision for Technology Use: Describe the school's vision for the use of technology. Visions are focused on learning, not on the technology. Think of a parent, visitor or a business partner visiting your school. What will they observe staff and students doing when they are using technology?

Expected student and teacher outcomes: In order to assess the impact of technology use on students and staff, it is important that you establish achievable outcomes for the use of technology. To develop the outcomes, consult local, state, or national technology use standards. If your district or state has no adopted standards, check out the NETs standards at http://www.iste.org. Remember, outcomes are your target for the next three to five years. The outcomes you adopt will be based on the amount of staff development funding and time provided and the anticipated student/staff computer ratio. It will be difficult for students to master any outcomes with only one or two computers in a classroom or once-a-week access to a computer lab.

Technology audit: You can't anticipate where you will be until you know are. Conduct an inventory of every piece of hardware and software your school owns and where it is located. This inventory will help you to determine priorities for future purchases as well as to manage your technology assets and control losses.

Goal statements, responsibilities, budget and timelines: The final sections are intended to specify the school's goals for hardware, software, staff development, curriculum integration, connectivity, repair and maintenance, etc.

The committee as a whole or sub-groups established for each area should describe the goal and who will be responsible to monitor implementation. Be careful not to make one or two people responsible for everything. A template, Preparing for Technology Planning (Process guidelines pdf_80.3k)was designed to assist you to define roles and responsibilities. The heart of the plan are the implementation activities and timeline, the budget required, and the assessment to determine the degree of success in meeting the described goals. Assessment activities should be realistic and based on data that is easily collectable.

Instructional Planning Guides (Process guidelines pdf_30.8k)
These Instructional Planning Guides are tools to help teachers develop technology use plans for their classrooms, based on their school's technology use plan. Teams of teachers at a grade level or subject area should work together to complete each section.

Incorporating Technology into a Unit of Study (Process guidelines pdf_20.1k)
Based on work done in the School Technology Planning Guide (Process guidelines pdf_30.8k), teachers are then able to use this template to create a more detailed plan for how they are going to incorporate technology into their classroom. Once created, this document should be shared with the principal and school-site technology support person.
